Coat them with a matte finish varathane for a more refined top end. If you use semi-glass, you will get a bit of tizz.

No mineral collector would ever do that to the specimens they collect.
The varathane is organic and helps carry the the emf field. I prefer to use other crystal types, like aqua aura ( gold flashed quartz and amethyst for the refined top end). Rutile quartz with the TiO2 shards also works well: the clearer the matrix the more open the top end.
I don't collect minerals; I use them for sound enhancement. Matte finish works for me. Are you doubting what I hear?
just speculation as to the causality of what you hear.
A slightly conductive coating on crystals enables it to absorb more of the emf field. many different treatments can achieve similar results.
I find that if you orient the specimens with the longer part facing magnetic north and not true north, the sound vastly improves.
I do not particularly like the longer crystals (spears) I actually find for my application beads work better.
Again...
YMMV
I can never tell if ubiquitous brisket is being facetious or not.
