Huh??!! 10K of what? Capacitance units are microfarads. Do you mean 10K microfarads?

Microfarads. I have had no problem with but recognize that I made a mistake thinking that it was safe in all situations. Jon says Type y should be used and at the correct voltage, 240v, correct?
Take a look at the Magnan Audio recipe for in wall capacitors I linked to in this thread, "Everything you never wanted to know..." You will see that the highest value capacitor bank is around 40 microfarads. The smallest value used in some commercial filters like Enecom is only a fraction of a microfarad. Also note the high Voltage requirements (400-600 Volts) for the capacitors.

Magnan Audio is not recommending even x type safety caps across ac line, white to black. The are also recommending non Y2 caps from neutral to ground which is a know hazard in the rare event that could cause a fire. Tweakeng and Jon are correct. Now across the ac one can use any amount of x safety caps designed for this purpose up until the circuit breaker is triped. I have used over 300 uf for years of x caps. So 40 uf is not the limit. There is a formula for how much current is drawn. Tweaker
