They're directional and hyper expensive?

You seem to think it would be better were they not directional. Why?
Not to mention AC is "alternating current" meaning that it reverses it's polarity 60 times per second coming out of your average US outlet .
At $70 a pop someone is no doubt getting rich on this snake oil.
More power to 'em.
No one has appointed you as the chief of the scam police.
How can you argue with someone who says "This is no argument" when it comes to facts and physics?
AC changes direction 60 times a second, this is a fact and you wanna tell me that a fuse is directional. So it acts as a diode?
Let's for a moment forget that these fuses are supposed to make an "audible" difference, just tell me how they are directional.
As far as chief of the scam police, no I'm not, however, I do have an understanding of basic electricity and a rudimentary understanding of basic physics.
People that sell $70 fuses are counting on your ignorance and gullibility to make a buck.
Basically, I think you guys are hopeless and exceedingly unscientific. Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible. Like a diode??? Certainly, you jest. I never said anything about the fuse only allowing pulse dc.
Again, you are not the scam police.
Please demonstrate or at least tell me what they're supposed to do that my $.30 fuses don't. I know, $.30 fuses aren't high end, I don't care.
I'm aware we can hear things that you can't measure, I'm also keenly aware that we hear things that aren't there.
People hear what they want to hear. If you spend $30 to $70 on a fuse, then I'm guessing you expect to hear some kind of difference, and you'll probably hear it whether it's there or not.
Bear in mind that selective perception works both ways. Your being certain that fuses don't matter means that even were you to deign to listen, you would hear no benefit.
A fuse is a safety device, nothing more, nothing less. It is designed to fail at a predetermined fuse rating.
Apart from that, in the AC side of a transformer's primary they do not and cannot affect the sonics.
Of course, the fuse is protection, but unfortunately like bad wiring it can affect your sound. Go back to reading your college textbooks. You have your opinions and I have mine. Your are no more valid.
Synergistic Research states on their web site that they are offering a 30 day- money back trial with their fuses. With this policy each person can make their own decision as to the sonic merits of the fuses.

The arrogance of some people is also surprising. I dropped out of EE because the professor thought everything was explained by their laws. Instead I went into physics where they knew that they knew so little.
"I dropped out of EE because the professor thought everything was explained by their laws."
Ah Norm, I've heard plenty of physicists do the same thing, it's just argot. I doubt that anyone really believes that before Ohm layed down the law that them thar electrons would jump around like fleas at a dog show, but he straightened 'em out by gum...

You have done an excellent job of explaining the difference in mindset between a scientist and an engineer.

Vasil,
Today I had the opportunity to compare the Synergistic Research fuse to a Furotech fuse in my Marantz SA11-S2 (SA-CD) player. The SR fuse brought out additional detail- better imaging, more timbre to the instruments, and more emotion to the music. I did not notice a difference in direction when installing the Synergistic fuse or the Furotech fuse. The Synergistic Research fuse simply allowed the music to sound better immediately upon installation. I think this is a very cost effective upgrade to amps and CD players.
In summary- Synergistic Research> Furotech> Isoclean> Stock Fuse.

I do think some fuses show direction more than others. Of course, I don't think anything we know about parts and circuits tells us why fuse direction has an impact. All I really know is that I have to check all fuses to see if their direction is right. I must say that on review components, I assume the manufacturer puts the fuse in the proper way or doesn't think it matters.
but hey, it's your money.
why not simply replace the fuse with some of your favorite UP-OCC wire?
wouldn't that be a surefire way to sonic bliss?
perhaps some crystals placed on various equipment.
If you think a fuse having direction means it is a diode, I rest my case.
Maybe even hire someone to cast a spell ..........
Vasil,
I have just finished comparing the new Synergistic Research fuse to the Isoclean fuse in my Art Audio PX-25 amplifier (6.3 amp small slow blow). Before testing I confirmed my speakers were (laser verified) in optimal position as they have been known to get jarred out of alignment by others in the house. In summary I preferred the Synergistic Research fuse. The sound is "cleaner". Listening to The Wes Montgomery Trio - SACD was a good test. You have Wes playing a lot of harmonics, Paul Parker (drummer) supplying percussion with delicate brush work, and Melvin Rhyne supplying low bass notes on the organ. The Isolcean has a mellow sound but at a sonic cost. The SR fuse has more detail - the drum brush work sounds better, the low organ bass notes have complexity, and the harmonics when Wes plays those famous cords the decay is richer. The SR fuse also gives a more relaxed musical feel to the music.
Both fuses are certainly better than the stock fuse. The difference between the fuses above are on the order of rolling 6SL7GT tubes. The SR has the clarity (but no brightness or harshness) like a Valvo 6SL7GT. The Isoclean is darker (with less resolution) like a National Union 6SL7Gt tube. The stock fuse is like a disposable Russian tube.
