In Reply to: RE: Iego plugs - anyone evaluated them viz Furu Oyaide? posted by bartc on July 01, 2009 at 13:48:05
The 'problem' with IeGo is their pricing. As the 'new' guy on the block, their pricing is right up there with the established brands. So who you gonna choose?
THe other issue with IeGO is their termination gauge, it's a tight fit with 10Ga. multistrand wire, and the screw feels flimsy.
I have found their copper plug/IEC to be on par or less comparable to the copper Furutechs, with the Furutech having the better termination holes/clasp and better build (housing et all) overall.
YMWV.
When I saw them some months ago on Cryo-Parts' website, that's what I thought at the time. I'm reading more stuff on them, but that's possibly both hype and the first impression of guys who haven't tried the Oyaides or better Furus. Again, that's just reading about them, not even seeing them live nor hearing them.
Was just checking.... You never know!
Since you know how they're constructed, you must have used them or seen them really close. Have you heard them too? The real question is: How do they sound?
I have heard the copper and the silver-plated. Compared to the Furutech copper, the IeGo copper was leaner in the bass, and slightly 'thinner' in the mid/treble. Some systems may benefit from that 'tone', like a warm system may sound more neutral.
THe silver plated version is interesting, seems to bring out more details, but seems grittier up top. Might be overkill on a neutral - bright system. The Furutechs rhodium had a fuller midrange body, and just sounded smoother.
But I did like the airiness of the IeGo silver-plated.
I haven't heard the Oyaides.
In the end its just another flavour...how it comes across would depend on the system and user taste.
Thanks. That's what I was seeking.
To my ears the Oyaides do better than the Furus, but the Furus are no slouchers at any level! So comparing the Iegos to Furus gives me some idea of how this thing might sound.
It's only with comparisons that you get the idea, when you can't test the item out yourself in your home situation, unfortunately. Someone raving about a new product by itself only tells you that he found an appreciable improvement in his system over stock or whatever came before.
