This is a very expensive gamble I made since nobody seems to have used them for XO applications. Chris thinks it will be the cats's meow on the Avantgardes. Hope he is right.
I am using the VH Audio TFTF and the OIMP Polypropylenes in the crossover of my Meadowlark Ospreys. I use the 4.7uF @ 250V OIMP on the tweeter and midrange with a .22uF TFTF bypass on each... My, oh my, what sound I am getting! I can't use enough superlatives to describe what these caps have done for the loudspeakers. They have taken a $3900 speaker into the $10,000+ range. I did modify them some by mounting them with damping foam to keep vibration away from them. Try both... you won't be sorry IMHO! I also use the OIMP 1uF in my tube output Audio Aero Prima CD player with a .1uF TFTF bypass - same story here, magnificent sound!
Thanks for your comments which are very encouraging. Don't know why hardly anybody is trying those caps in XO application but only in coupling application.
Chris promised to send them on Tuesday but haven't seen any mail from him.
BTW, what caps did they replace in your speakers?
Chris usually ships the next business day after receiving your order. You should have gotten an e-mail. Chris is very prompt about these things. He's been very consistent with my orders, very punctual, prompt, courteous and professional with e-mails.
Just received his mail with tracking number. Indeed he is very professional and prompt. This is my first order with him and I'm very pleased!
Please post your results after you have installed the vcaps on the Duos. I'm still debating whether to Omega my Duos or go to the Orpheans. Style wise i prefer the Duos but could live with the Orpheans. Also looking to put Vcaps in my Starchief amp too. Feel free to email re. the Omega improvements too.
Will gladly post my impressions here after the caps got some burn in time on them.
Omega drivers with new XO is quite an improvement over standard albeit at high costs. Check the archieves. Not familiar with the other speakers you have mentioned.
The caps that the VH Audio TFTF and OIMP's replaced were the Auricaps and Meadowlark's own Canary Caps. Both were 5.0uF in value. The speakers sounded somewhat better immediately, but about 200-300 hours later they took on a new meaning of musicality without grain and dynamics galore! Highly, highly recommended for any loudspeakers or amplifier coupling applications.
Any reason why you chose that value for the teflon bypass to the OIMP? Also, did you install both the OIMP and teflon bypass together or at separate times. How long was the break-in period for you before things really sounded great. Thanks for your input.
I chose the value for the bypasses to allow the majority of the midrange and upper octaves to pass through the 600V VH Audio TFTF Teflon capacitors. These capacitors are unbelievable! The only issue is... break in time! They sound good right out of the box, but it takes them 300-400 hours to peak in sound, and once they get there, oh boy, hang on to your socks. You will absolutely hear things in recordings that you will swear were never there before, and the grain and glare (especially on digital) is mostly eliminated. These capacitors are all about music... but music with detail. I have tried the TRT Dynamicaps, Hovland caps, Multicaps, Rel Caps, Auricaps, Kimber Kaps, etc. You name it, I have listened to it in my quest for excellence in sound. The VH Audio TFTF caps (when broken in) reveal the limitations inherent in the other capacitors. I know that they are expensive, but after they are fully broken in, you will declare them an absolute bargain... trust me on this.
I've been using Mundorf Silver in Oil as output cap of my Consonance Ref 2.2 tube CDP and very satisfied with the results.
Now, I'm planning to replace the CJ Polystyrene coupling caps (0.15uf) of my Conrad Johnson amp ... I am contemplating since VH OIMP caps are more than double the price of Mundorf SIO. Is CJ Polystyrene good enough or should i go with the Mundorf or VH cap. Would appreciate if anybody had an experience on upgrading their CJ gears.
