I have some excellent modified and aligned tube tuners. I bought a SS tuner for the first time rated #29 at fmtunersinfo. I will report its performance.
It will be interesting to see what you think. Pioneer to me has always been the antithesis of tube tuner sound. Many years ago (about 40 yeeesh I am getting old!) I sold a Mac MX110 to purchase a TX9100 Pioneer that was "the" hot tuner at that time. Great DX'er with a hard bright almost un-listenable sound (and remember I am the guy that can tolerate the Sony XDRF1HD). One of my all time classic bad Audio Moves. Right up there with selling a Marantz 8 to get a Son Of Ampzilla. Sad but true : <}
Regards, Jerry
Tube tuners sound great with a good signal, but for RF performance you just can't beat some of the highly rated SS tuners.
Looking forward to your report.
Any reasonably designed SS tuner will outperform a tube tuner with regard to sensitivity and for the most part much more selective as well. Tube tuners have wide open I.F. stages vs SS that can have a few four pole ceramic filters in line or even a selectivity switch for a narrow filter option.
