So once again the highly rated Sangean PR-D18 sounded horrible, exagerated sibilance and hiss. Voices, which is what I want the radio for for the most part, were impossible to listen to. I would rather buy a modern fairly new radio. I keep having bad luck buying used tabletop ge clock radios which sound perfectly good when working. I'm giving up on them because I've gotten 2 bad ones in a row when the sellers say they are fine. A portable without horrible sibilance... Thanks, Tweaker

I have one of these; I am guessing they're no longer made but it's a pretty decent radio overall with an excellent (very "hot") AM section. Sounds perfectly OK to me, but what do I know about good sound?

I found mine on the "take it or leave it" swap pile at the Harvard, MA town dump...so, from my perspective, at least, it represents an excellent value :-)
all the best,

So, I have no experience with the Sangean you said you didn't like, but I have one of these and I think it works fine & sounds perfectly OK for what it is, a small, cheap AM/FM transistor portable radio. I mean, we're not talkin' REL Precedent or even MR-78, you know? :-)
This one I got for $3 at our church's semi-annual 'rummage sale' (more of a fleamarket than a pure-play rummage sale). The worst thing I'll say about it is that battery life (using alkaline cells) is kind of limited-- well worth investing in a phalanx of NiMH rechargeable cells... someday...
Otherwise, a perfectly decent and decent sounding radio.
Not sure I have much of an ear for vocal reproduction, though -- here're my preferred vocal reproducers (ahem).
all the best,
mrh
