Help...I have a Kenwood KT 7500 that loses audio output periodically...does not lose the station, but audio output is in and out.
Basically stock except that someone has "modified" the power switch so the tuner stays on all the time it is plugged in.
And a small toggle switch has been added to the front panel which allows the panel lights (not the leds for the stereo etc) to be turned off.
Sounds great when it sounds at all.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you using the variable outputs? If so, try the fixed.
Yeah, I was hoping it was a bad spot on the level control. But nope, tried that the first thing.
I suspect it is a component in the audio output section. Not sure whether the tuner is worth spending a lot of money on.
I can put it in the system and it will work fine for a couple of hours or longer, then nothing.
...could be that the ganged pot on the attenuator is dirty and in need of cleaning.
all the best,

See my response above. It has got to be something like that, maybe a bad cap. There are about two gazillion little electrolytics in the circuitry.
A couple of options on CL in central Minnesota:

Maybe you could talk one of them into shipping. It's hard to say, since most people seem to use CL because they don't want to deal with the whole online transaction thing. Might be worth a shot, though.
Yup -- something about solid state circuit design seemed to make electrolytics start breeding like flies ;-)
The KT-7500's a pretty good tuner -- it might be worth spending some lucre on -- or, in this day and age, it might be easier to just snag another decent tuner (they're not exactly in high demand any more) and move on.

or when set to FM mono?
If the FM interstation "hiss" muting is switched on, and the signal's borderline, the output may periodically lapse into silence.
You probably knew that already, but it is the simplest place to start.
If the problem goes away with muting switchted off or if the reception mode is set to FM mono, the solution(s) may be.
Increase FM muting threshold
Reorient antenna
Raise antenna height
Improve antenna (best will be an outdoor-mounted FM Yagi or other directional design, with a rotator and mounted as high as possible).
Have tuner serviced ('aligned')
If you don't have them, docs for the KT-7500 are available for free downloading (registration required) at the link below.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am reasonably sure something is wrong in the actual audio output section.
When it loses audio output, the tuning meter(s) stay exactly where they were, no movement.
If there was a reception/antenna problem wouldn't you see movement in the tuning meters when the sound was lost?
Muting is off.
