Good results from FM do not simply depend on having a tuner and wanting good reception - you have to turn the wanting into knowledge. About signal strength and multipath effects at your location.A whip antenna isn't long enough nor does it have enough gain or directionality to reduce multipath.

I can send you a copy. It was published in Audio magazine.
You'll need some loading resistors and up to 50-60 feet of twin lead, and a downlead.
Do a search here on rhombics, too.
What you can build and where will depend very much on what your SO feels about music and FM.
You'll need to know where the desired station's transmitters are in relation to you. In the USA - FM Fool is a good tool for that.
You then need to know how your home's floor-plan / floor plans are oriented, and figure out which spaces or roof spaces are suitable for a wire rhomboid with sides of 11 feet or more - with the long axis pointing at each desired station.
Really depends on how serious you are about FM as a source. :-)!

Well, I am thinking of getting a directional yagi specifically for FM, but you are correct about the SO: I can't get her to stand in one place when I tell her to hold the dipole antenna!
Worst yet, I may need a rotor as well for the yagi. The other possibility is a clothes line, rhombic combination. I doubt I will ever be allowed to have more than one, though.
Get on to FM-Fool and find out where your desired stations actually are in relation to your home's position. IE what the compass bearings are.
