I have a Scott 310e that has a mechanical tuning problem. I don't know the correct term for this, but when you turn the knob it fine tunes to some ratio of turns, then it catches and it turns the dial with a ratio of 1:1. I have looked at it, and don't think I can repair it. I was wondering if any other Scott tuners have the same mechanism so I can find one and replace it on the 310e. Maybe the 350c has this type of tuning? The dial looks the same as the 310e.
Thank-you

It is slightly gummed up..The best way to that is to pull the knob and face plate off and clean the shaft and relube it with machine oil or lithium grease,a small amount.
Some people like second order distortion in their tube amps, some people like honesty in their tube amps. I like honest!
Fred, remove the knob and check the inner and outer portions of the dial shaft. Maybe it is catching on something inside.
The Scott dial was "borrowed" by Henry Kloss for his KLH and Advent and Tivoli radios. Here is an excerpt from a site on the KLH tuning dial.
"Setting the chassis on its back, I removed the vernier tuning knob and put a drop of oil at the junction where the inner (vernier) tuning shaft goes inside the main shaft. I worked the tuner a few more times, then left it to rest on its back overnight.
The next day, I cleaned a tiny amount of excess oil from the vernier shaft and tried it out. Perfect! Enough oil had worked its way into the mechanism to free it up."
Worth a try.

instead of oil, try some deoxit

David,
Thank-you. I tried oil before I saw your next post, and it did help. I also looked your system up, nice collection of vintage equipment. Are you running black plate 6l6gc's in your quads? I tried them and like them better than the KT66's.
Fred
Hi Fred, I did try the RCA BP 6L6GC in the Quad II. They are an entirely different flavour than the KT66 GL reissues. More detail. I like them both.
Glad your 310E is back in shape.
David
I even put the RCA 6L6gc black plates in the Heath W5ms which also are KT66 amps and the black plates have a more elegant and detailed sound.
