Hello,
I own a Proton 450 tuner, which I've heard may actually be a NAD tuner, and I may in the future have access to a Sherwood S-2300 tuner. I live in St. Clair, MI. and I use the Proton to pull in mostly WDET, around 50 mi. away. I get (on most days) 3 signal bars for good mono. It reportedly has Schotz tuner circuitry, which helps with distant stations. If I acquired the Sherwood, I would have it rebuilt and aligned by Radio X tuners. My question is, would the Sherwood perform as well with weak, distant stations?
Thanks

What antenna are you using? One of the several tuners I own is the Dynaco FM-3. No one has ever mistaken them for a DX (distant reception) champ. I would bet money the Sherwood could easily out-perform the FM-3 in DX.
Yet I have no problem receiving my favorite music station signal, which is over 50 miles from me. That's because I use a directional Yagi antenna.
Get yourself a good, outdoor, directional antenna (if you don't already have one), and as long as the Sherwood's in good working order, I'm confident it'll work just fine.
Edit: And by "just fine", I mean very likely you'll be able to listen in stereo, not just mono.
Keep us posted

Hello,
I live in a condo, half-basement unit, so no outdoor antennas. I use a C. Crane dipole.

Do you have access to a long gutter outside? Run coax to it and connect the center conductor to it after you use something to get clean bare metal. You never know..........

What about a Rhombic antenna? I've never tried one, but Timbo, our resident antenna expert, thinks highly of them.
Below is a link to 300 ohm white twin lead you could use to make the Rhombic. It should hide fairly well around the edges of your ceiling.
If that's out too, then your only hope for an answer will be from someone who's used both tuners.
Good luck.
Hello,
It's weird, I can see your Audio Magazine pdf on my Ipod touch, but for some reason, the pdf doesn't want to load on my pc, which I would need to print it out. I have Windows 7, 64 bit. Could there be any other way for you to send it to me?
Thanks

You can check the Asylum FAQ section where the Rhombic article is on file. Or, once you answer my Asylum email, I can send you the article, if that works better.
Thanks, I'll probably try it!
