Missed it Timbo.
Heard DAB at Harvey Norman's here in Perth..............what a load of crap!!!!..............''dynamic range?''..............what dynamic range!!...........sounded like 10 db.
I hope this endless promotion of digital radio by ABC Classic FM on their breakfast and drive programs will come to an end soon. It is driving me nuts, and they are now making rediculous claims that it sounds better than analogue FM. Hopefully consumers are not so stupid as to believe all this advertising nonsense.
The problem is that as you have seen, DAB+ is "hard sell". Walk into any store (even proper audio stores who ought to know better) and they will try and shove an abysmal sounding digital radio using horrible digital compression technology down your throat because it is new, you have to have it, but probably most importantly, there are nice big profit margins for selling them.
For my own part, I love my Creek Evolution tuner, and I will be powering it up daily and listening to proper quality sound until the analogue tramsitter is literally shut down for the last time.
Luckily, I have one local community station that is only a 3 minute drive from my home. They transmit some fantastic sound and I can't see them going digital anytime soon.
Same goes for RTRFM which is a member sponsored station in Perth. They too transmit great sound and have a good variety of programs.
But, they're not ABC CLASSICAL FM,(not even close) which I will sadly miss when they do eventually ditch analogue FM.
