I see Citation II, IIb, 12, V
I would like to get one next year but I am unfamiliar with the model numbers.
Are there major differences?
Follow Ups:
The Citation I, II, III, III-X, IV, and V were all tube units. The higher model number units were solid state.
I have a complete 1960 product brochure for the tube Citations on my site, check it out.
Audio Classics has a II at $2k and IIb at $4k. Big difference between those model. I did a search on the b but I only get airplane information.
In 2017 I would like to pick up the II and have it restored.
There is no IIb - that amp is a Citation II, period. Apparently a previous owner just made up the "b" business and then added a letter (in the wrong font and size) on the front/bottom plate. And the seller doesn't know that's not a model designation.
That price is awfully high BTW - Don Sachs can sell you one (you do need to supply the core) completely redone/upgraded for MUCH less.
Note that the picture may not even be the unit for sale! Buyer beware (IMHO)!
Quite a bargain at only $4K. Better grab it now!

Buy Chinese. Bury freedom.
$4k for a (probably) bogus II"B" that barely functions?
That alone shows me all that I need to know about Audio Classics!
Cheers,
SB
For $4k I'd rather buy a new solid state McIntosh just to cut the power cord and look at it.
you'll rob yourself of the Hg/866-hue blue meters...:) Something like a pair of MC1000's would be just the ticket.
cheers,
Douglas
Friend, I would not hurt thee for the world...but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.
Thanks Jim, this year coming up I'll contact Don and if you're up for the restoration let me know.
Shop carefully for your Cit. 2 "core". Then send it to Mr. Sachs. Jim is up to his armpits in swamp water and desperately holding the gators and crocs off. He takes VERY few rebuild jobs on, these days. While not quite as good as a "Deuce", the H/K Cit. 5 is far from being "a slouch". The 5881 "finals" (6L6s "on steroids") yield well over 40 WPC and McShane style PSU upgrades usually allow for 2X+ rated power, instantaneously. FWIW, the "Five" images a tad better than the "Deuce", but the all around nod goes to the "Deuce". Lenny Harman had some terrific "horses" in his "stable".

About $6700 today for that system. I would substitute a tube preamp and have a system that would still be quite good today.
Fun to flip through the back issues.
That's interesting Tre, thanks for posting it But notice the faceplate doesn't have the "B" letter on it like the Audio Classics amp. I suspect the copy writer and editor on that ad you posted got the Deuce mixed up with the solid state Citation B amp.
Particularly since they recommend the Citation A preamp.

This might be the ad that started the rumor.

Or not IIb?
I post tube tattoo pictures, and you quote Shakespeare. We're such a diverse group.

And the engine driving evolution. Oh wait! There is no such thing as evolution.
