Hello!
I bought an used ARC LS5 and the volume inside the unit has a sign of worn out during playback.
I wonder what type of volume control inside this unit? Conductive plastic or stepped type, but likely this is a conductive plastic continuous type.
Thanks!

I know the ARC using this volume control should have a particular reason, however, most conductive plastic has +/- 10 to 20% tolerance on each section.
Even though I found nothing wrong in terms of sonic quality from the LS5, however, theoretically phase should be an issue with +/- 20% tolerances on each phase...Any comments??
If your volume pot has indeed gone bad you will need to source a new pot from ARC. These pots were custom built for ARC and standard ALPS pots will not fit the unit properly.
Not a Noble as mentioned. It is an Alps 100k 4 gang (quad) log taper control.

Good luck in sourcing a replacement for that part.

Good sounding preamp... I would put a far better part in that position though.
Here is the part from Germany.

You are going to have to open it up and take a look. Maybe even take it out??? From the pictures is looks like it's under a board but the back end is visible. Try taking a close up picture of the rear of that volume control. Again this is strictly from the picture it looks like a Noble?????
