The EL34 was a European-designed tube.
I think the 6CA7 was the American designation for it?
I have a pair of old Hitachi (Japan) gray plate 6CA7 tubes though?

Follow Ups:
el34 was invented by mullard :a great commercial success
Contrasting europesn market ,Sylvania inevented 6ca7 ,a tube
half way between 6l6 and 6550,direct plug in for el 34 .
Different tubes ,same socket.
The best commercial american tube ,in my opinion ,was 7591/7868:
great sounding and original american vacuum tube.
Both mullard el34 and sylvania6ca7 are magnificient sounding
valves of the golden era .
have a flock Toshiba 6GB8 tubes - those seem to be the strangest 6CA7/EL34 clones. right?
