Just bought a single Philips SQ E83cc and told it was a Siemens made, but there are no etched codes to be found. It says Germany on the top of the tube but nothing else.
Have I been taken for 40$ or were not all Philips tubes etched?
Any info would be great! Cheers

This seems to be a Lorenz Stuggart made version of said E83CC, yet I'm basing this on what appears to be four silver climped corner post, as it's hard to make out the type of getter from your photo. But it makes matters much easier for you to study the internal structure on any given brand, because in the end, as most commercial tubes lacked said tell tales versus their inductrial of military counterparts - and seeming that many are relabeled according to the shortage of certain makes from some companies during these times, I'd say as a general rule if nothing else learn your tubes made between say 1947-59, as many of the ones made after 1960, began to same similar especially the ones under the Philips banner or wing between the periods of 1960-1971.And owning true vintage Tungram from the mid 50s|60s, along side both Valvo | Lorenz | Siemens 1950s version, I'm still inclined to say that while I adore the German makes for their sense of accuracy and transparency, said vintage of Tungsram's remain my favorite all around tubes, yet in the end it's the tandem of said Tungsram | Valvo and NEC 12AX7s within either of my tube Integrated's in which I've found offer the best balance between detailing and refinement, as it's the combinations of said tubes which brings it all together.
Yet, I'd be wrong........, in which case, forgive my outbreak.

Hey pal,
After alittle investigating, they do seem to be Siemens made, Munich 68'.
Found a helpful German webpage called tube-classics.de.
Anyways, this tube has been a revelation for me. I'm hearing things in recordings I've never noticed, and not a hint of hardness or siblance in the highs or mids. Bass is fast and very accurate but it's the one thing I find the early Tungsram tubes do better. I don't know what it is but this Philips tube casts a soundstage like none other. Makes me want to search out those klangfilm Siemens and hear if it can get even better!
Take care Oscar.
Hey man,
Yes it seems you've come across the later version of this tube, and if you like these.........., you'll simply have to find | hear the ones made between 1950|59 between the Foil Strip D Getter or D Getter versions.
Being someone whom tends to love the sonics of certain German brands other then Telefunken, I found out as far back as 2004, there are quite a few brands merely simply aren't even aware of........, or better put, never told the time to listen to and appear to allow themselves to settle on the same olde three names which many can't seem to get beyond, here I'm talking Amperex | Mullard and once again Telefunken, which I've outgrown.
Life goes on........, yet in the end, it's nice to see that you're openminded enough to venture outwards.
Take care as well.......
I learned some interesting stuff I never knew before.
Cheers!

All the Ecc83/12ax7s I have seen have etched codes like the above.

Sweet. I can't see it but I'll take your word on it. As long as it's not a knock off, I feel better.
You never know with EBAY.
Hopefully this is an upgrade from a Tungsram tube tho I didn't spend much $$$ to find out. Cheers pal!
Photo of etched code for E88CC. Note how Siemens/Halske often puts code in sideways arrangement.8^)

Hard to tell exactly from your 1st photo though it seems to have an etched code behind the "83C" portion of the E83CC towards the bottom of the tube. Likely that is the code that indicates manufacture location and the specific tube type. If so look immediately above and below that line of code for the 2nd code that indicates manufacture date.
Ya, I see what you mean but it looks like it's been blacked out and that E83cc placed over it. Strange.
Sometimes the etched codes are fuzzy. Also sometimes they are etched upside down. Possibly this one is upside down. Check it out with a magnifying glass while the tube is upright and upside down. Possibly the code will become readable.
Here's the other side...
