I need to replace the 845 tubes in my Art Audio Carissa and am not certain what will work most effectively. I'm aware of the top rated tubes but need additional information from another owner hopefully. Before my unit was shipped to me, Joe Fratus, former owner of Art Audio until it closed (and the brilliant designer of their products) told me that he went through ten different 845 tube brands/models before finding one that was up to snuff for use in the Carissa. I just don't remember what was technically lacking in the others but it was a technical limitation of some sort.
I did find this comment from this forum some years back which may apply:
"The instruction manual of the Carissa says that for optimum results only KR 845, TJ Full Music 845, and Valve Art 845 should be use. Now I would like to try the Shuguang 845B in my Carissa but a little weary that it might get in the way of it's performance. A friend said that the 845B will draw more current which the Carissa is not designed for. Anyone who has another take on this?
My manual (the amp is only 30 months old) does not have the same statement. Unfortunately, the tubes in it now are no longer available. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pretty much any 845 will be fine. the reason they recommended those initially was they were the only ones available. (KR 845, TJ Full Music 845, and Valve Art 845).
What brand 845's came with your Carissa?
Just emailed you a phone number for Joe...don't know if it's still a good number but worth a try.
Thanks. His old cell number, which I had, no longer works. I will try this one.
I had a Carissa for a number of years and I should have kept it, nice amp. As I recall, that amp runs a relatively conservative bias on the output tubes. I used 845B's and also the early 845M's that had a lower plate dissipation rating. Never had a problem with either.

I would ideally like to go with the Psvane TII or the Shuguang Natural Sound 845T, but again, need to be sure they are comnpatiable with the amplifier.
