If it were I think people would have been all over it some time ago. The shortage of true NOS non-microphonic 6dj8/6922 tubes bought the 6n1-eb out as a replacement a long time ago, due to preamp manufacturers driving them to the edge and beyond their capabilities.
Then again, you'll never know until you try them.
Follow Ups:
My Conrad Johnson goes through 6922s at the rate that's like paying for a premium channel on my cable bill. Luckily it only sees light use or I couldn't afford to keep using it.
Honestly if I knew this before I bought it I would have stuck with something simpler.
I may just go passive with my VTA ST-70 and NAD C275BEE and just bypass the Conrad Johnson all together???
I have the same problem with an Anthem Pre1L
I would use another tube if it would sound close to what a $25 6922 would sound like, but last a lot longer.
I had a homebuilt preamp that I put in storage and I don't recall it going through Sovtek 6922's (probably the worst sounding variety), but it maybe sounded just as good even with that handicap. Ultimately, I couldn't finish the casework on the unit and shelved it a long time ago.
I think I should get two years even with a lot of use from these preamp tubes, but I don't use it all that much and that is all I get.
Biggest problem I'm having is tubes going noisy with hiss. I wonder what the mechanism of this is as well?
I found a thread where over on the head-fi forums where iFi did some Q&A (*cough* marketing). It seems to me that they're pretty tight-lipped about what the adaptor does, but the consensus among the couple of people who have purchased it seems to be very positive.

Has anybody compared the electrical parameters of this iFi "6922 =JAN GE 5670 to a real 6922?
If you are looking for durability then you should be able to find a current production proper 6922. I would ask Jim McShane to set you up with the a good tube.
If you want NOS that's special I would not go after a 1980s JAN tube. The 6922s are getting very expensive but if you want a tough tube maybe a ECC88/6DJ8 might best serve you. I doubt that they are further less electronically similar than a 5670.
What could be the cause of the Conrad Johnson mentioned above,to burn out 6922 tubes quickly?
