curious how they sound after they burn-in. I have had tubes sound really good and then loose some of the magic after burn-in. And sometimes, they don't and then I have some 6SN7W that start off noisy or blah sounding and burn in great.

Put one of these on your bench. DX50 and DX90 I can't help you with John.
Is this chassis pretty or what..When I see DX numbers like you have in your signature,I think of Heathkit ham rigs.

I was a radioman in the Navy and have enjoyed the smell of tubes.

That's in really nice condition Mikey. My first commercial TX was a Heath Apache TX-1. Great fun when I was a kid!

I have my Apache on the bench right now. That DX-100 wasn't mine, but the Apache is and I also have the Mohawk receiver.

Talk about weird. In my Sherwood preamp tube V5 position. If you put a new tube in there it would hum for about 25 or so hours until it burned in. then it was quiet. What the HECK was that about.
Yes it did this with several tubes. So it wasn't an isolated incident.
Never did get an answer as to what that could be. But it did support the "myth" that yes there is a break in with tubes.
