If your PT is capable of putting out 6.3v@1.2A......6AX5GT (max. 125ma).

Some varieties of 6X5 have a habit of shorting out. Not sure which variety that is, but be aware...
I also read something about that, but i think it is mostly when the rectifiers is operated close to its max limits. My use is to supply hi volts to 2 6sn7gt tubes which is "no sweat". cheers.
Just sayin'...

To quote the great Zathrus from Babylon 5. I have about 5 of the GE type but wanted to get some of the more "reliable" types. i forget why, but the stock ones have a flaw that can cause a problem with your power supply. IOW, just an excuse to buy some rarer tubes. (insert smiley face here). cheers, Dak
For what it's worth, my primary "low power" amplifier uses dual supplies with a 6X5 in each channel. The 6X5s aren't special, just run-of-the-mill tubes bought on eBay. The amplifier has been operating trouble-free for more than ten years.

Hi FL, i have not found any yet. do you have some to sell? regards, Dak
But, plenty on Ebay and usual tube sellers. I'd get the micanol (brown based) Raytheon variety.
7Y4 and 6X4 are also 70 mA. rectifiers.

Ok, while my experience with adapter sockets is not good, a noticeable difference in sound quality, make that very noticeable. What is the l-octal replacement for the 6x5?
