Now, if you check out the construction of the 5992 and her sister tubes, there is no doubt that, the red bank line, designed for aeronautical uses, are some of the best made tubes ever. I use the 5992 in my SE amp and it sounds excellent as well. Very clean and precise sounding. Just as good as some NOS Raytheon and RCA mil spec tubes that i have also tried in my SE amp. If you can get some NOS VT 106 tubes which is mil spec 1940s to 1950s era 6v6 they seem to sound better than the more generic 6v6. But i have not tried the Russian 6v6 except maybe in a guitar amp. Some of the "made in England" 6v6 were actually Russian made, so you need to be aware of that. In other words, don't pay vintage Mullard prices for a Russian made tube that just cost a few rubles to buy. cheers, Dak
PS i have collected a big stash of NOS 6v6 you can email me if you are interested as i have way too many. I hope i have not broken the rules by mentioning this.

Old rubber boots and brick outhouses are FLIMSY compared to Red Bank Tubes.
Of course, some of the prices can cause cardiac arrest.
FWIW, I gravitate towards the 6106. IMO, you would be very hard pressed to find a piece of equipment that uses a 5Y3 that would not benefit from the installation of a 6106.

Hello Eli,
Second that on the Bendix 6106. That is what I am using in my set amplifier. Don Garber said it was the best for that application. Tough and rugged.
Eh, Eli, what a colorful, country colloquialism " Old rubber boots and brick outhouses are FLIMSY compared to Red Bank Tubes." Words to live by, for sure.
And speaking of the devil, here is a photo of one of my SEP stereo amps, 6106 rectified, with a brace of 5992s and a 5691 driver tube. A very nice sounding combo, if one were to try it. cheers, Dak
