Yes, that's my feelings exactly. And keep in mind for many vintage amps you need matched quads of 7868s - where are you going to get those?
Just go with the excellent sounding EH and you'll be set.

When he reposted the question. In other words,very hard to get NOS 7868s and I'm keeping my 2 quads. I also have 2 quads of the EHs and before school is out I would love to see if Randy,the guy that runs our machine shop could find a way to shave off some of the pin diameter.
You'll ruin those tubes shaving the pins. They're coated to inhibit the otherwise rapid oxidation that would occur when the tubes are hot.

What do you mean? They are in production now, many of the AA sponsors (and others) carry them. They are easy to get (even matched sets) and plentiful. As well, they are FAR less costly than the little bit of old stock left.
