I hate to say it because I have to take the same advice. but just replace those tubes ever 9-12 months. regardless if they need it or not.
Again, it's hard taking MY OWN advice as well when dealing with a $50 GL 6922!!!!
But as you notice before they get noisy then do gradually start to loose that sparkle.
Also try the gold lions.

Follow Ups:
Unlike a couple of years ago, they seem to be sounding better now. They may never develop the soundstage depth of the EH tubes - I don't know. But they are becoming more enjoyable and balanced.
Stay with Eh ,the best you can find !
My 2 cents
Sorry sometimes i'am a bit dislessic ....
iwanted to say :stay with the best 12 ax7 eh you can find ;or in
crescent price order :ei 12ax 7 ,Tungsram 12 ax7 (best )
I run a pair of Tungsram 12 ax7 (ecc83)in v1 and v2 position
in my premier 3 since 10 years ;every time i try ei (original
c-j )or Eh > i turn back to Tungsram .
The best new tubes choice :well selected Eh (don't wasre money
in mullard reissue, gold lion or tung sol reissue ):c-j
voiced their old pre on the very plain 12 ax7 you can find
(original ones were Ei )
