At some point, I would like to try a set of Chinese EL34. The ebay feedback system seems to me of somewhat limited value.Which Chinese tube sellers have folks had good experiences with, please?
Curious about the Shuguang's with the red markings. There are also other Chinese EL34 versions for sale including unlabeled, supposed Mullard copies and a 6CA7 that looks different from the larger bottle EL34B. Some say Chinese tubes are about all the same, but there does seem to be a variety floating around out there.
Thanks.
Peter

Check out the eBay seller, Ayumi Tubes. That guy must have bought up every cool, collectable tube when no one was interested in them, or he bought up large British military stocks in Hong Kong, or both. He's a reliable seller, and I recommend him.
He also manufactures a pretty cool DHT preamp that because of the listing heading just really doesn't come up on a search for a DHT preamp.

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!

Thanks.
I agree with Charles. Get the GL KT66's and fuggetabout the Chinese EL34. They will be money well spent. There is no free lunch. ;-)
The Tubestore, Tube Depot and Antique Electronic Supply all sell Chinese tubes. I would not buy from Ebay.

Grant Fidelity is located in Calgary Alberta they sell Shuguang and Psvane Chinese tubes. The tubes are shipped from China to you. I have bought a number of Psvane and some Shuguang Treasure tubes from Grant the past two years and find them to be outstanding. Not cheap, the eBay sellers are somewhat cheaper but Grant will stand behind them.
If you have any questions Rachel is very knowledgable and quick to reply.
I would suggest try the Psvane TII EL34's.For all other tubs Jim McShane is the man.

I have purchased Black and Gray bottle 300B and CV-181T tubes from Rachel. No issues. Still going strong. Sonically superior to base Chinese and Russian tubes. EML'S also good from Jax.
Rachel has been running the business since Ian Grant passed away, I guess it's been a couple years ago now?
Anyway, she is a jewel of a person and knows the Asian audio industry very well.
If I were looking to purchase Chinese manufactured tubes(or most any Chinese manufactured product), I would buy from Grant Fidelity without any hesitation.
Rachel & Grant Fidelity are fine; they'll sell you their Chinese tubes; but their customer service sucks if there is a problem. Rachel is less than helpful. Perhaps she is getting angry in her advanced age but when one of my brand new Psvane KT88 IIs blew on its initial power up she claimed to have sent a replacement but never did and then refused to answer my emails even after the shorted tube was returned to her as proof. Only after filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and paying an additional fee did she ship my replacement. Between the shipping charge to return my blown tube (which luckily did not take out my amp) and the fee charged by Rachel, I could have simply bought another tube. We can all have a bad day but she must have been having a bad month. It seems that Rachel turned into Nurse Ratchet from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Let's all hope for either the return of the kinder gentler Rachel, or a suitable replacement.
In one word "Jim McShane".
Never assume anything I post is accurate.
I agree, but he does not sell Chinese EL34 to my knowledge.
I have a set of EL34 Shuguangs and they are pretty good. Actually I was quite impressed with them. The red markings - I don't know much about.
If you are interested why don't you fine a reputable dealer to buy a set from. ebay has always proven to be somewhat "chancy" when it comes to tubes.

Hi Charles,
Are you referring to your EL34 Shuguangs that in the other thread you said sounded lively? What color markings do they have and where did you get them, please?
I'd like to try GL KT66, but they are expensive and at the moment I don't feel like risking not liking them. Might risk it if I do further research, though.
Thanks.
Peter
My tubes are packed away right now. So i don't know if the Shauguangs have a red band. Honestly I was surprised at how good they did sound for an EL34.
My advise is don't worry about the GL KT66. I am using them in place of the Shauguangs and they are WONDERFUL!!!!!! A very impressive tube that does every thing just right.
Also contact Jim McShane if you want a second opinion.
But if it were me and I had to choose between the Shauguangs and GL (and I do have both) - Save you money up and go for the better tube!!!!!
