So what's the lifespan of inkjet prints these days? And what's the approximate cost to print a 8.5 x 11 of the good stuff you're talking about, including ink? I still order prints on real photo paper, but the cost confines me to 4x6. I have quite a few images that need a larger scale to create the right feel.

I have inkjet prints made many years ago that have retained their look. They were done on nothing special glossy and satin paper. I would hope inks have changed for the better since then.We (my son and I) bought a new printer at Christmas time. We bought an HP with an ink plan. We can print up to 300 print pages per month....full color. When the ink gets low, the printer notifies HP and they send more ink. This plan costs $5/mo. It was available for $2.99 I think. If we don't print the 300 (not even close), they carry over to the next month.
We are very happy with the printer and it's quality, as well as the ink plan. If I can't afford $5 a month for ink....there's something wrong.
The printer was $75....ouch!
Metallic paper can be had for $25-30/25 sheets.
The combination of having a printer and the finding out about the metallic paper has really brought me back to taking photos and experimenting.

Thanks for the info! This is one area of photography I haven't had any time to keep up with.
Incidentally, do you know whether the metallic inkjet paper is advantageous also for B&W? I have a number of frames I'd like to render that way.

Here's the Miles photo I messed with. This looks really nice on the glossy metallic. I wish you could see the effect. Everyone who sees it says....wow.

Very nice! I do wish I could see it in person. Maybe I can find someone local who's using that paper. Thanks!

Message me with your address and I'll send you 4x6s of the Miles and tube pic (5751 I think) on metallic paper. You'll get a glance at what it can do.

The insert of the Epson Metallic Photo Paper I bought states it' for use with photo black ink only.
I bet this paper would be very good for black and white. There will likely be hints of silver in the print.
I printed a photo of Miles Davis that I modified. Some of the yellows look like gold ink on the paper.
