It relates to Pin 1. The metal tube uses this pin to ground the case. Glass 6V6GT do not have a connection to pin 1. If your amp is using pin 1 as a idiots tag strip, you could have B+ on the case of the tube. If you touch the tube in operation and you are still alive, there is no harm. I hate it when amp builders use "unused" pins as tag strips. Lazy and dangerous.

I've used metal case tubes in amp, no problems. I really like the metal cased 6SJ7. And the mil spec red RCA 5693.
Well, on my limited experience, I think they sound great too. I wasn't expecting much but to my surprise they sound better then my premium RCA's.
