I'm looking at purchasing some tubes from www.tubestore.com and noticed that they actually ship from Russia.
Has anyone had experience with these guys? Any good/bad?
Thanks...

Despite being mass produced for the Russian military, this tube appears to have become extinct. That's how good it is (was).
Very thankful to have got two quads from Jim when he had them, and that I picked up a box of 36 from a local guitar player a couple of years ago.
"Despite being mass produced for the Russian military, this tube appears to have become extinct."
Is that true, these are no longer available? I bought a case of 100 a few years back, so haven't checked the vendors since then.

Well maybe not extinct, but very tough to find from reliable sources. And the price has definitely gone up. There are still some on ebay for $55 to $100 a quad, but are they rejects? Many reliable sources in Russia (tube-store.com, sovtube.com, ussr-tubes.com) list them as sold out.
Maybe Jim can chime in on why he stopped carrying them.
I ran out and couldn't get more other than onesy-twosies!
It wasn't that long ago, European eBay sellers commonly had these for sale in cartons of 100. Some were selling lots of 500 or 1,000. Even with shipping, the cost was only about $4 per tube. It seemed to be a nearly inexhaustible supply. I see now that eBay sellers only have them in pairs and quads, and prices are way up. Sure wish I'd bought more back then!

Lucky my lifetime is short. I think I've my lifetime supply, and they sound great in my Deuce, cathode resistors changed per Jim McShane and 6L6.
I've used them is the past and have never been disappointed. *I* think they do more thorough testing than a lot of the auction site sellers of Russian tubes.
I bought a dozen 6N1P-EV's from them several months ago for the phono stage in my preamp. I didn't need a dozen (only a pair), but at $4 a pop why not stock up? :) Didn't receive any communication from them for about a week, so I emailed asking for a status. Received a prompt reply that the tubes had already shipped. They never said I'd get an email with a tracking number, guess I'm just used to receiving one. Anyway, the tubes showed up (in North Carolina) right at 2 weeks after I'd placed the order. Minimal but sufficient packaging, and all the tubes were fine, measuring very close between triodes and to each other. So, no complaints at all, and for the total price paid I think it was quite a good deal.
My only issue with them is the "equivalent" tubes they show with many tube types. A 6N1P is NOT an electrical equivalent to a 6DJ8 OR a 6922, and many equivalents they list for other tube types are not equivalents either. Just be careful and order the actual tube type you need, not an alternative based on their equivalent listing.
Did you end up having to pay any duty/taxes/etc. on your purchase?
My pre was designed to use 4-12ax7s (three in the phono stage) and a single 6n1p and 12ax7 in the line/output stage.

There wasn't any separate duty or tax, just the shipping charge. I don't remember how much it was, but if it hadn't been reasonable (to me) I wouldn't have placed the order.

www.thetubestore.com is located in Ontario, Canada. While they source some of their tubes from New Sensor or others in Russia, I find it hard to believe they would have tubes shipped directly from Russia to the consumer. One of their main selling points is that they test (and match, where applicable) the tubes they sell, and it would be hard to do that separately in each country of origin.
Where exactly do you get this information about Tubestore shipping from Russia? Is it possible you looking at a different company?
It is actually, www.tubes-store.com, and they claim the tubes are shipped from Russia. AS I said to the other poster, they have what I want, at a decent price. It's just dealing with something with overseas shipping that scares me...

"www.tubes-store.com" = in Russia (no experience)
"www.thetubestore.com" = in Canada (excellent experience)
If you did mean the former, sorry can't help.
Cheers!

It would be "www.tubes-store.com", which (supposedly) ships from Russia. They've got what I want, at a fair price. It's dealing with overseas that scares me...

No idea what quality, service or duty costs would be like. Definitely some interesting pricing. Risk/reward I guess?
Sorry couldn't help further.
Cheers!
