I noticed in a normal setup, the GZ34 doesn't start conducting until about 80VAC is applied by the Variac.
Follow Ups:
My Mullard gz34 all start conduction before 60vac. By that voltage the heaters have started conducting and the DCV has already started to rise.
OK.But was the heater winding on the same Variac driven power transformer?
I made another assumption that DAK's heaters were at full voltage and only the HT was limited.
I seem to be just full of assumptions. :-)
but back to your point, yes....if the heater is not hot enough the rectifier tube will not conduct. (and that might not have anything to do with the AC on the rectifier tube's plates)
