It is a real head scratcher. I will try to disconnect it and see what happens. The tube heats up so the filaments are connected. And like I mentioned I only have the rectifier connected so nothing after it can be a problem. cheers, Dak

Your DC meter might not read pulsating DC.
A cap would make that non-pulsating DC.
