Any idea of the manufacturer of this tube? Does not match any of my other 6BQ5 tubes so not sure how I got one :)
Follow Ups:
They are early Mullard EL84. B indicates made at Blackburn plant. There are also rX1, rX3 and rX4. The big hole in the plate is the most obvious give away about the maker. Also the "tobacco stains" on the inner glass is no indication that the tube is used up or bad. I have many extras if you need some. You can contact me off site if you want. cheers, Dak

Do they have a seam at the top?

B8d may mean: Blackburn, England Mullard factory. 8 = 1958. d = April.Does the tube have another code line? Like rX or rX2? Could indicate EL84 (subtype).
Picture would be nice.

I think I can make out RX1 but problem is the that with this tube it has those two parallel pieces of metal at the top that my other rx1's don't...

Those are part of the getter ring. You could have a very early iteration. Just a WAG.
All the Mullard and Dutch Philips EL84 I've owned or know about had a single ring on the post. But, there were several styles of early EL84 tube, many of which I've never seen.
The single round hole in the plate sure looks Blackburn-made Mullard. How is the tone like?
You know that the early and earliest versions of almost every vintage tube tended to be the best sounding; right ?
So called "D-Getter" EL84s reign supreme in tone to my ears...
Anyone lucky enough to have a matching quad for their push-pull amps will also quickly know...probably undoubtedly...
Esp in Class "A" amps, like the Vox AC-15 and 30s. Rich harmonics with a powerful bass. Not duplicated with other EL84 (except, maybe the RCA 7189A).
Haven't heard or seen a GOOD NOS Mullard, in ten years.
