Timm, as I recall that Cary uses one 6SN7 per channel for gain and one as a cathode follower. Rolling the gain tube will have much more pronounced effect than the CF tube. This is not to say that the CF has no effect on sound, just that it has less than the gain tube. I suspect you already know this, but just in case ...
Thanks Sondek. I was planning on two - exactly as you said. The followers... What if any difference is there by changing those out?
Tonality. In my experience they can have subtle influence on tone. Experiment with the gain tube first, then once you're really familiar with the sound of things, try rolling the CF.
