Go for the Syls. Although $115 for a pair of '52's doesn't sound like enough money. I know prices for NOS have come down, but at the height of things a bona fide pair of NOS '52 Syls went for $300 - $350. The RCA's are good tubes, but they are rolled off on both ends of the spectrum. What they do in between can be magical though. Acoustic, vocal, small ensemble stuff can be truly wonderful with the RCA's. So if that's the stuff you listen to they might be right for you. However, the '52's are all around superior tubes. Much deeper and tighter in the bass and a top end second only to the TS RP, and not by much.Edit: I forgot I had this pic. It came from one of the inmates here years ago, and shows the differences in internal construction of the '52 vs. garden variety Syl. The '52 is on the left.

Sounds like a load of old bollocks to me!
Did you ever do any recording, acoustics or professional audio out of interest?
If not, you have a near identical charming manner about you.
