"The KT77s sounded like a poor cross between an EL34 and a KT88, with a discontinuity between the frequency ranges."
Just so everyone knows - this is NOT a widely held view. I'm not saying he's wrong or anything like that - but the poster's opinion does differ quite a lot from most regarding the KT77.
Different systems, speakers, room, EARS - it all impacts the listening experience.

Absolutely. Perhaps I shouldn't have assumed everyone would realize this. This was my experience in my system. I suspect if this tube functions well elsewhere, that it's most likely a mismatch with my amplifier producing the unsatisfactory results.

The GL KT77 & KT66 tubes are excellent. The hard fact is that you have to listen to them in your rig to know which you prefer and it may be both. Variety is good. :-)
I am running the Genelex reissue KT66 in my Quicksilver Mid Mono amps and they sound great.... I can run any EL34 or 6l6 variant plus kt66,77,88 in those amps. I prefer the 6l6 sound to EL 34 and the KT66 is a huge improvement in those amps

If you have only used KT88/Kt120 or EL34 you may be pleasantly surprised.
