I'm using a Yamaha RX-A820 as a preamp. I have a Radio Craftsmen CA-11 Concerto (10w mono PP) I have used as a center channel in the past with an AVR that output 2v. Newer Yamahas output 1v. So the center is more than 10db below the other channels, plus plenty of hisssss on a Klipsch KG 2.2.
Any ideas on a line stage or even line driver? Decware makes a line stage for $649, but I'm not willing to spend that much.
It was refurbished by Don Allen, and it's a shame to have it sitting unused.

2V to 1V is 6dB, not ten (important if you're going to mess with attenuators).
If you're using a home theater receiver, you should be able to rebalance gain between the center channel and the rest of the system.
A lot of gear of that vintage is very sensitive, and will not likely take 1V of signal at any of its inputs.
Letting the AVR set the balance between speakers puts the fronts and rears at -10db per the AVR. Perhaps it's even less than 1v. Yamaha is not forthcoming with their specs.
But I will say it sounds fantastic, I just have to crank up the volume to reach normal listening levels.
Try a Harrison Labs -12dB attenuator at the input of your center channel amplifier. From what you just said, you absolutely do not want more gain between AVR and center channel amplifier.
The AVR is dropping the other channels 10db to match the center. My last post did not read the way I intended it.
Yeah, if this is the case, the -12dB attenuator on the center channel amp will accomplish what you're looking for.
IMO, it's definitely time to DIY. Also, 1 more opamp in the signal path is not going to make any difference, in this situation.
Build a +/- 15 VDC regulated bipolar PSU around an AnTek AN-0115 power trafo, 4X Schottky diodes, and MC78M15CTG/MC79M15CTG 3 terminal regulator ICs. Configure any decent single opamp "chip" as a non-inverting amplifier with a gain of 2.5 X. If necessary, you can add a trim pot. at the DIY device's I/P, to balance listening levels. I would hope the AVR has a center channel volume adjustment, which would make the trim pot. unnecessary.
