Not sure what you're saying about a Tung-Sol 6550 from 1971?

I wasn't saying much - it's just a photo and some thoughts on this particular batch of TS 6550's.There's some historical merit to them. The "010309" designation for a Tung Sol 6550, as far as I have seen, is entirely unique to Fender's 400PS amplifier, produced between '70-75. The schematic says the 010309 is a "special design and selected 6550".
I think there are two possibilities. For one, it's exactly as the schematic mentioned: it's a cherry-picked 6550. Given the temperamental quality of the 400PS, this seems reasonable.
Or, it's a formality. Tung Sol was merged with Wagner Electric in 1967, sold to Studebaker, which then merged into Studebaker-Worthington, which later transformed into McGraw-Edison after a full acquisition in 1979. Given all this changing of hands, the patent for the 6550 may have been in limbo after 1967, necessitating the temporary 010309 by 1970 for the release of the 400PS. For all intensive purposes, they're the same tube, but the 010309 doesn't infringe on any patents (especially when no datasheet seems to exist for it). If patent woes and limbo orders were an issue, the 010309 would have a tactful bureaucratic solution.

May your tubes be lively, warm, and long-lasting. Holy be thy heater.

Superseded by the GE 6550A, on later models.
Here is the home build PS300 I built for a bassist.
The demands on the tubes are pretty harsh from the high voltage to the very high signal inputs to the output stage. The design by Fender is set up for almost pure class B with very low idle current. Those are real PS300 Power and OPTs
Wow that's sooo cool man. Just PURE awesome. I've never come across a 300PS. That thing must be interesting. You have it setup a little differently. The input tubes are funny. And the 300PS had a weird EQ. anyway, still, well done :D Tell us more about it!
Sourcing transformers must have been a heck of a job. I know Mercury Magnetics has the whole lot available for the 300PS. Apparently, the output transformer for the 400PS eludes them still.
And yes, these amps are very hard on tubes. Truly, they operate them efficiently into oblivion. I'm STILL not sure what works best other than the GE. The JJ KT88 is stable, but it took 100 hours to wear in 1000 hours. The life was literally sapped out of the tube after a while. Perhaps it was my ear, but the GE's keep on giving. I'd like to see how a Preferred Series KT88 (also Penta KT88SC) works out, or the Shuguang Treasure KT120. The KT120 would run the price of a GE, but would come with some warranty.
Ahhh tubes...

Very cool! Did you use an interstage transformer with 6V6GT driver?
Ohhh Yeahhh Those are great interstage drivers.
Bob Risson was selling his stock of NOS vintage transformers on Ebay 10 years ago. I still have 4 of the interstage transformers, a PS300 OPT and some other large Power & OPTs from 200 watt amps. Nice stuff. I really wish I had the need for a 200 watt guitar amp to get me to build with them. I have used the interstage with the 6V6GT into a 300B with a Shishido connection and they sounded awesome as Hi-Fi.
