NEC had Western Electric as an affiliate. I have lots of Japanese tubes. They sound great. And it's not a wonder. The engineering, tooling, materials, and test methods were essentially sourced from America.
I find some Japanese tubes have a more smooth, detailed, and balanced character than their American counterparts. I especially love the Matsushita Philips products for that. The NEC shares that quality compared to a GE, for example.

May your tubes be lively, warm, and long-lasting. Holy be thy heater.

Agreed. I've not encountered a lot of Japanese tubes, but my experience with them tracks with yours. I have some Toshiba M3624s (6DJ8) that sound like Bugle Boys to me. Never heard a Japanese tube that I didn't like.
Thanks !I think the 12ax7 NEC tubes will be better option than the stock Philips blue print that come with the CJ EV1.
