I have an Art Audio Jota in the HC version equipped with the KR tubes. I don't have a manual as I acquired the amp in a trade a long time ago, but I'm going to make the assumption that the XLS type tubes are required and a regular 300B would die an early death due to the increased voltages. Not sure exactly how many hours the existing KR's have on them, but I'm guessing in the 1500 hour range. They still sound great and they don't need replaced probably for quite a while, but I'd like to have some backups regardless.
Looking for general opinions here on current production 300BXLS tubes. I've heard some negative things about the KR's and that quality has taken a nosedive since Ricardo passed away. I have absolutely no idea whether what I'm hearing is fact, opinion or sour grapes, so any input here would be great. I've heard as well that the Emission Labs XLS's are extremely well built and of very high quality, but perhaps not quite as musical as the KR's. Any thoughts or sharing of direct experiences would be appreciated!

Hi bcowenI have used KR tubes for many years, types 300B, 300BXLS, 2A3 and 5U4G. They all are fine after many, many hours of use. I also have EML tubes and they are good too. There are, as always, a lot of unfounded rumors about manufacturers quality. Companies that have been in the business for many years tend to make good products or they get out i one way or another.

Purchase the Emission Labs 300B XLS tubes don't look back. Great sounding tubes and very reliable which is becoming scarce nowadays.
