Has listed some 12sl7 as made by Western Electric.
These tubes were supplied by Western Electric but carry the National Union JAN designator of CNU.
If made by Western Electric the tubes would carry the Western Electric JAN designator of CW.
When I pointed this out to the seller, in part of his response, he said that Tung Sol never made tubes.
"Just like Tungsol never ever made one tube and never will. they are branded tungsol but never made tubes."
He also stated, "We supply tubes to many ebay tube dealers. Most tubes out there for sale come from us these days"
What's up with that?

i just bought a lot of tubes from this guy. Now I'm nervous.Bought old GE6072 and ECC83s from YUGO (the telefunken 'clones'). How would I know if they're fake?
The Yugo have the American 12AX7 instead of ECC83 designation? Is this normal?

I am disposed to believe that "radiola-guy" and "old_guy_radiola" are two separate businesses. I wouldn't buy a tube from "old_guy_radiola" if he had the last tube on earth, but if I was compelled to bid on the Yugos it would have been $80.
I came upon this Old guy radiola today.
Hilarious sale "ULTRA RARE NOS VINTAGE BRIMAR 6L6 EUROPEAN TUBE MINT COND GOLD GRID KT66 6L6GC"
Even claims it's 6L6GC (WTF)!
I guess if it's got to be US $509.99
Approximately £352.73
(discounted from US $599.99)
At that price for an ancient vanilla 6L6 I would expect it to made out of SOLID GOLD!
After looking at this guys tube listings earlier today, the only thing that came to mind was
" clown ".
Look at this gem from him

I think this is a money laundering scheme. I am seeing more and more of this on epay. dollar switches going for 400.00. This pair of tubes is not really special other than they are NOS. But as far as Tung sol 12ax7 they are not that rare. 10,000 bucks are you outta your effing mind? Eboy really needs to check this guy out.
Then he turns around, and offers an identity pair for less:

This guy seems related the another notorious ebay fraud; The Real Jazz Cat
This guy makes everyone ultra cautious before buying any tube.
Funny thing, the more ignorant the dealer, the more arrogant they act to cover up their lack of knowledge. That's the best case scenario, the worst is that the seller is a fraud and crook.
Grey, black and shiny "rounded" plate 6SL7/12SL7 are common (like the ones in the Ebay listing).
Round plate 7AF7 are also common.
Round plate 6SN7/12SN7/7N7 are much less common.
I cannot remember if I have seen a round plate 7F7 (need to look at my stash).
I have owned the 6SL7 and the 12SL7 round plates I keep thinking the 12SX7 for some reason as well but gave them to a friend. The non tube company Tung Sol lamp works made these if I recall correctly but they were actually relabeled light bulbs with special bases.
FAKE, FAKE, AND more FAKE LABELS.
I love tube history. This guy is a TRAVESTY.
He sells legit tubes, but then puts a fake label on them to try to increase their value. For instance, he has some legit early 50's GE/Ken-Rad 5814 Carbon plates for sale. But, he put a TERRIBLE fake silk screen on them, and totally screwed up by putting obviously incorrect date codes one them.
And then he tries to sell them at 400 percent of their actual value.

He's ok for auction bulk deals but is totally F.O.S with regards to everything else . Never provides test results either

If you think what's going on in the USA is bad, you want to see what's being going on in the ex-USSR since 1990!
When is a 6V6 or 6L6 clone really NOT one, but something else entirely?
When is the EL34 with Svetlana logo NOT made by Svetlana and so on and on?
Life in the jungle is at least populated with colourful birds and a logical food chain.
EBAY was not supposed to be full of dogs eating dogs via it's feedback loop, or that's what they like to claim.
The EBAY feedback system is more "loopy" than loop.

I've even seen books I've authored being flogged, the proceeds laundered and the police don't give a f..k, least of all about EU copyright law.
I recently bought some NOS. Without experience and no measuring equipment, I honestly have no idea if they are NOS or Used. I can only tell they are the type of tube I am buying. And they do work. For how good and how long, I have no idea.

Beware of this seller. I am fairly certain he is Arthur Koterba who has ripped off at least 2 large tube dealers in the last few years. I wouldnt believe anything he says. The tubes in this listing are RCA made tubes! All you have to do is read his responses to know he is a crook or at the very least a fool.
Had my run-in with Art Koterba a few years ago, but I ultimately got my money back.
You can find out more about him and his family by reading his brother's book (Inklings).
I do not believe old_guy_radiola is Art Koterba (too sophisticated for him), but anything is possible.
I e-mailed him the item numbers of identical 12SL7's for sale by other sellers (see items 121622989148 and 151649957701), and suggested he consider being a bit more honest with his business practices. Here are some gems from his replies:
(One one of my tube listings)
"Want to do some tube rolling in your Crack?
Want to do some tube rolling in your butt Crack? LOL!!
What this is funny.
Really please quit wasting our time.

"See we are NOT the ebay police like other people think they are. Listen really listen. We are by far the #! top tube dealers on earth . We have 5 technicians and 4 owners that have more experience In their little finger then I have the last 20 years. Trust me when I say this . We know exactly what we are doing no help needed.
have a good day"
Pretty classy...
Ask him who made the Tungsol 6550
He said, "New message from: old_guy_radiola (2,354)
Please tell me where the tungsol tube factory was . What town or city or state. Then we can talk more about it. "
I responded with quotes and a link to this website containing this picture.

"Starting in 1907 they developed the first successful electric headlamp for cars, they followed that in 1913 with the two filament high and low beam headlight in a single bulb. They also developed the flashing turn signal, and made that little thing that goes click, click under the dashboard for almost every American car until the 1970's, yes, we all grew up listening to Tung-Sol."
Thanks, for the link.
I thought I recognized that name. This guy has been on my eBay blocked bidders list for quite a while.I can guarantee, none of my tubes came from him. lol

I used to point out misrepresented facts to tube sellers all the time in years back and even pointed out these things to ebay support all to no avail. I just quit paying attention after awhile and pretty much decided that it was not worth any sweat on my part to try and do something about it.
Unless, you are a direct competitor to these guys well, I guess you have to try and show them their errors. regards, Dak
Confusion. Wonder what Tungsol has to with National Union. And the bit about TS never making tubes? Then, there is this gem:
"We supply tubes to many ebay tube dealers. Most tubes out there for sale come from us these days."
Hmm...
Perhaps, he misinterpreted your message to him?

Here's what I sent to him,
"FYI, if these tubes were made by Western Electric then they would have the Western Electric JAN designator of CW on them.
These tube were in fact made by National Union and that is why they have the National Union designator of CNU on them.
So you have it backwards. These tubes were made by National Union and Western Electric used them to fulfill a government contract. This sort of thing happened all the time.
JAN-CKR- = Ken Rad
JAN-CNU- = National Union
JAN-CNY- = North American Philips, Norelco
JAN-COZ- = Sonotone
JAN-CQN- = Slater
JAN-CRC- = RCA
JAN-CRP- = Raytheon
JAN-CS- = Sperry
JAN-CTL- = Tung-Sol
JAN-CUE- = United Electronics
JAN-CW- = Western Electric
JAN-CWL- = Westinghouse
Please correct your listing.
Thank you

Here's what I got back,
"See here is something many many tube guys doesn't know.
Let me explain the short version.
Before I do explain. We have four owners with a combined 165 years experience . The CEO Has 64 years experience and worked for western electric for 41 years and amperex in Holland for 23 years.
We sell 200,000 tubes per month and have 13 stores worldwide. We provide and have been providing tubes to dealers for many decades. Just recently (7 years ago) we decided to open many ebay stores all over the world. This one is one of the newest ebay store
Ok short version about what you think.
The Nation union tube company never made this tube. These were designed and produced in the western electric factory. Nation union had an exclusive contract with western electric.
Notice western electric doesn't have 6sn7 / 12sn7 12sl7 6sl7 types. This is because of certain deals and contracts back in the day. Just like Tungsol never ever made one tube and never will. they are branded tungsol but never made tubes.
So technically We are correct. I completely understand why you think what you do. It is really hard to know these things unless you live it such as the one owner I talked about. He is going to be 88 years old. He is a tube God. He has information about tubes No one will know unless you were there.
Also we warehouse over 175 million tubes. Most are from governments of different countries. We have 24 employees in the usa a total of 115 employees worldwide.
The owners all got together back in the 1980;s and decided to hoard tubes. They have been doing this a very long time. So when the ebay listers get the information we are guaranteed it is correct. Sometimes the ebay lister might make a mistake. These 12sl7 tubes were designed and put together at the western electric factory in Chicago Ill.. These tubes also sometimes were made with the famous western electric cloth wire as lead wires from the pins to the anodes and filaments . This should help give some more proof.
Thank

Sylvania JAN-CHS
I have a lot of this one. It's on all the Ws and some bottom getter GTs erroneously all called Bad Boys, while only certain ones qualify as actual Bad Boys. You all know the drill.
P.S.
I will let you in on a secret I got from US intelligence some years ago.
Sylvania didn't actually make any tubes either. They were made by Dumont who pretended to be a relabeler but RCA GE Raytheon etc. were really just different colored and shaped DuMonts. Dumont did sub contract with Lansdale but very rarely. I can talk about this freely now because the technology isn't as important as it once was.
"Back in the day", " 13 stores worldwide", "tube god". I call bs..... JH
I would go a step further and say that those were tubes made by RCA, then brokered to WE by NU.
Interesting.
What's the give away that they were made by RCA?

The octagon around 12SL7 etched into the glass.
RCA made round plates? I know that TS and NU both made round plates, but never heard of RCA making round plates.
Wonder why anyone would say crazy things like that. Hard to trust any seller, after he said that.
???
!
The Mind has No Firewall~ U.S. Army War College.
After reading and re-reading the seller's reply, I'm not so sure that's what he meant. I think what he was trying to say is the TS did not make either a 12SL7, or did not make the ones in question.
I'm more intrigued by the RCA round plate thing. I feel as I've been educated in that I did not know RCA did round - never seen them before. I have both TS and NU 6F8G's with round plates and the plate construction in both the TS and NU do not look like the ones in the sellers picture. I mean, sure, they're round, but that's where similarity to the TS/NU 6F8Gs ends. Round plate TS & NU 6SN7s I've seen are identical to the 6F8Gs with exception of the bottle shape and grid cap. The conclusion I'm inclined to jump to is that neither NU or TS made those 12SL7's.
Live and learn I guess.
RCA made round plate 12 and 6SL7 tubes. Perhaps also some other types which I havent seen. RCA never made a round plate 12 or 6SN7s.
I emailed him again asking him to clarify.
This is his response.
"New message from: old_guy_radiola (2,353)
Tungsol branded many many different tubes. They never made them they just branded them all types.

Are you serious? He actually is saying T-S never made any tubes? Ever?
Wow. Did he have a previous career as an Iraqi press secretary??
Andrew
Yes, he actually said that.
"Listen please yes they had a tube company that is where they marked the tubes for other companies . These is not a tungsol manufacture anywhere and never was. All they did was mark millions of tubes."
In the face of evidence to the contrary he clammed up and changed the subject. He wanted to know my name and phone number.
Being a crazy "I'm not afraid of anybody" cowboy, I emailed him my phone number.
He then sent me this, "Good news . The owner is going to have a company meeting and you can join us at one of our operations in so cal.
Do you want a sample box of some of the tubes we are sending out?

Well, I guess the thoughts I had of e-mailing him a piece of my mind would in execution be fruitless.
I was going to call him out for his fake labeling of Lansdale tubes as Sylvania's, and comically erroneous date codes on his Ken Rad tubes.

I've never seen a 6SL7 or a 12SL7 with anything other than round plates.
Occasionally, round plate 6SN7's and 12SN& turn up,but they are rare.
The last one, 12sl7, that I had in my hand was a KenRad. I picked it up at an estate sale. It had flat, ladder-type construction. I've never used any 12v octals, but I knew what it was and it appeared NOS in box, so I snagged it. Cost me $2, I think. Bought an old brand X emissions tester too at that sale. I used the 12sl7 to see if the tester worked. I eventually ended up giving both away.
Here's a sold pair with both the RCA octagon and RCA base printing.
Silver font style on black base looks 1930-40s RCA.Told you it was a WAG.
