Good question.
I am using Sylvania 5U4G from late 40's and would like to know what else I can use. Anyone?

Follow Ups:
I am also using the same Sylvanias and I also tried KenRad VT-244/5U4G which have a warmer sound.
Of all the rectifier tubes that I tried in my SLI80 these sounded the best to me.

I am a bit late but I used to have lots of problems with the rectifier tube flashing after a few months of use in the SLI-80 (using the stock EH 5U4GB).
Eventually, I changed the rectifier to a Cetron 5R4, and everything was OK since.
I have fiddled around with this amp before, and the two large caps are wired in series to increase their rated voltage. I've measured close to 530V DC just before the big cap. Bear this in mind in case you would like to try substituting caps.
