Actually, the cost is damned cheap, especially if you're shipping or storing a $50 tube.
Just a suggestion.....

We spend tons of money and then hide the tubes in little boxes...
Very nice! Some day I'll get my ebay tubes in order. Right now it's U-line boxes, a vintage tube box with styrofoam on both ends and bubble wrap. My customer's seem to like a vintage box even if it does not match the tube.
Your method would be great for a unhappy person I sold a 6k11 to last month. He messaged me a 3 paragraph dissertation about my rotten packing job before he even tried out the tube. He was a rookie with 24 feedbacks so I let him have it. Explained I am not shipping Faberge Eggs and no one questioned my packing before. I also told him that marking fragile on first class package usually mean it will be drop kicked into the mail box by the carrier He sends the tube back Fedex overnight at his expense in a 12x8 carton. Tube tested the same as when it originally shipped.
I never mark my tubes shipments as fragile.
The last broken tube a person received was, you Mac, many years ago and that was my fault. I was a rookie packer.
