I'm trying to establish if the octal socket depth varies or what the tolerance is. Had some problems with a pair of 6L6GC Sylvania tall bottles that had these fitted (see link below) - one kept going cold and had to be pushed down to make contact. I'm assuming that because of the thickness of the key replacement that the contacts in the socket were gripping the tapered part of the pin.

Is this a hit or miss adventure to repair a broken keyway?

Perhaps the issue is being aggravated by worn-out sockets?

$8.90?!? For that little bit of plastic? Whoa, that's amazing. Can you remove them? Might be better to remove and just pay close attention to how pins line up when reinserting. The pin is not mandatory, but it do make things more idiot-proof.
That's for a package of four. In 2009 I bought a packge of 4 for $10 so the price has gone down to $8.90 for the four.
How did they workout for you?

They work just fine; but you may have to trim the stub left by the original post so that the replacement fits flush with the tube base. The original post needs to be completely gone. An exacto knife works well to whittle away the remains of the post.
My thoughts as well $9- for that does seem like extortion. I have made do by marking the keyway bulge on tube base and amp and just lining them up. If however a replacement keyway were more in line price wise ? a $1 a piece,? I would avail myself to them. Anybody an entrepreneur with access to a plastics factory?
