Hello!
I am running an MC240 and some old GE's - I have experimented with RCA Blackplates and also the newish Tung-Sol (New Sensor) 6L6G coke bottle tubes. (they bested the RCAs!)
I am interested in the opinions of those who have used the TAD 6L6WGC-STR tubes (or even the 6L6GC-STR ones) in their audio amps and compared them to the tubes they are supposed to emulate. (the GE's in the first instance and the RCA's in the second).
I am a firm believer that there has to be SOMETHING out there that comes close - I already like the Tung-Sols better than the RCA's (too glary and harsh in the uppers to me) so I know that it is possible.
What say others?
Hopefully there are some of you who have had experience or might be curious as I am - what's to lose?
(certainly not the amp - these are supposed to be built like tanks!)

I can't help with the comparison to GE's, but do think these tubes are decent and worth trying if you have some interest. I've been running them for almost 18 months now.
Of the half dozen or so quads I've tried, I'd have to say they rate about second in terms of my preference in this system. YMMV and all that.
Have not tried them myself, but the is a guy on Canuck Audio that loves the TAD says they are the best power tubes he has tried in his PrimaLuna. Not that expensive to try and see if you like them.
Still lots of the GE 6L6gc around you should be able to find a quad they seem to go about $60 a tube so $240 for a quad which is not to bad.
Just get them from a dealer that does good testing. I honestly don't see any reason to pay the *rarity* price for old production power tubes.
At the end of the day, these are Shugies. Why don't you just get some to see if you like them?
I might!
