Dave G. indicates he has never seen pin 8 used in any of that family and regularly uses it for a tie point. I have as well in my Fisher amps for what that is worth...

DCG, knows what he is talking about but why take a chance? It is not hard to put another tie point on the chassis. If your tube socket has grounding lugs, you can snip off 2 lugs from a terminal strip and solder one of the lugs to the ground lug and use the other lug as a tie point. If you do it well it can look very neat. Just a thought, Dak
one thing I am trying to avoid is using any ground points in this amp except one, these Eico amps have open frame power transformers that leak emi all over the steel chassis setting up voltage differentials all over the chassis. That is one reason Eico amps have a fair amount of residual hum as Eico used multiple ground points rather than a single star-ground scheme which is preferable to solve the hum problem...
You misunderstood. If you cut off 2 terminals from the solder lug strip, the terminal are not connected. You can then solder one of the terminals to the tube socket ground lug and thus create an easier way to mount a tie point than say drilling a hole to mount the solder strip. The unconnected solder lug is not grounded. Sometimes you need to cut the solder lug and bend the terminal if you have the loop shaped lug and use a piece of the cut lug as the mounting point . If you don't want to put holes in your vintage chassis this is a way that allows you to install a tie point. cheers, Dak
thanks, I am just using a terminal strip held by one of the tube socket mounting screws to allow the connections
