Anyone tried the new TungSol 12AU7

Looking into buying several driver tubes for my ST-70.

the GE's that came with it are wonderful. I mean the tops. But tube rolling is tube rolling!!!!

Has anyone tried this one in a driver position?

Others I looked into were the EH.

Eventually I will be ordering the GL KT66s with this amp.

I think I want to shy away from vintage tubes unless NIB.

I have almost nothing but good to say about the new Tung Sols. I have the EL34's, and the AU7's, BUT, as much as I enjoy the 12AX7's, I've had a couple go bad. Not so with the others. These are in a VAC Avatar integrated amp. For the price, give em a try!

Well,I preferred 1950's era GE to vintage 1950's TungSol but Sylvania and Mullards from the 50's - early 60's are much better,to my ears.No idea of the cost these days and have never felt the need to try new 12au7's.

I do use them in an ST70 rebuilt ,zero feedback, in the late 1990's by Ralph Karsten of Atma Sphere.

  I'm using those GE vintage NIB 12AJU7s now. And I really can't imagine any other tube reaching that bar.
  
  In a tube rolling situation of course. I don't mean improve but a different sound that I still like.
  
  I have three GE's, two phase splitters and a driver tube. I may just buy two extra tubes and save the mileage on the two splitter two GE's I have in those positions.

Yes, I tried them in my old CAT SL1. Nothing special, IMO. An okay tube, but like I said, nothing exceptional about them. A much better answer for me in that CAT was the JJ 802S. A very nice tube indeed. Long plates and spiral wound heater. Quiet as a stone and really nice tone.
