Look no further than the gold pin version of the JJ 6922. A really awesome sounding 6922 for cheap money. Or spring for the mondo tested and culled version of the same tube going under the TFK Black Diamond name.
Follow Ups:
For quite some time, JJ's E88CC (6922) was a terrific option. Then quality control issues surfaced. :> (( Perhaps, JJ has gotten its 6922 act together.
New Sensor's "reissue" Genelex Gold Lion labeled 6922 has been receiving excellent comments.
While not nearly as bad as AI, ARC gear can be hard on 6922s. A 100% safe, tough as old rubber boots, option is the Russian 6H23П-EB (6n23p-ev). The sonics of the variant are good, if unspectacular. The ElectroHarmonix (EH) 6922 offered by New Sensor is, in fact, 6H23П-EB.

It seems to come and go. I had them for a time, then the quality went away. Then I heard they were good again - and I found they were! For a while anyway... 50% reject rate is what I had on the last batch I purchased.
Jim, when was it you purchased that last batch? And what type(s) were they?
The last JJ batch I purchased was E88CC, and IIRC it was about 18 months ago. I've purchased ECC99s, EL84s, and ECC832s since, but they are regular stock items for me.
That roughly coincides with the last batch of baddies, 6922's, I got from them too and I did not get them from you. They were the steel pin versions. They sounded great, but could not keep quiet more than about two weeks. It may be time to give them another try. In the last 9 months to a year or so I've either been really lucky with them or they've found the handle again because it's all good stuff.
Eli,
JJ has their act together again. They did for a while have issues, but everything I've gotten form them over more than the last year has been really seriously good. I've used their ECC802s, ECC803s, 5751 and 6922 in my CAT SL1 and Primaluna gear and all of it has been top-notch stuff.
