Just to backup what Cory said, I used to drop 6CG7/6FQ7's into the line section of my SA3k every once in a while when I was in the mood for something different. The resulting sound was exactly as Mike Elliott described it in that text Cory lifted from the old Alta Vista site. A rounder/fuller, more what some might call a classic tube sound.
I should really try some other types in my amps again. I've been using RCA clear top 6FQ7's (which I love) for a long time, back to when they were used as full- range amps.
I'm running 3 SA-220's now- one for the midrange (which I'll likely keep the RCA's in), and one per channel on the bass panels. I'm curious if there might be a better tube suited for the bass side in particular. Is there one that excels in that department, in your opinion?
Curious about those Toshiba M- types that you were talking about.
Cory
