These Dialogues are especially responsive to tube changes, both big and small, all depending on the sound you want to hear. To experiment on the cheap I would try some new production 12AX7's in the center two positions (leave the 12AU7's in the outer positions for later fine tuning if you like the former). JJ 12AX7's or 803's have a very nice mid range. The Mullard also has a nice mid range but tends to be a bit soft in the highs.
FWIW I use Tong Sol 6550's in my Dialogue amps. They have a bit warmer tone than other 6550's and they fit my system well.
BTW, don't forget to play with speaker connections. Try both 8ohm and 4ohm connectors. Don't just make assumptions based on what you think your speaker speakers impedance might be. This can make a really big difference.

Chuck, thanks for the info, where do you get your tubes? Any experience with either https://www.tubedepot.com/ or http://thetubeshop.com ?
I've used both Tube Depot and Tube Store with equal success. Both are dependable and equally easy to deal with for new production tubes. Recently I've used Tube Depot for power tubes and paid the extra $ for 24 hour break in (to insure that they are not just passing on tubes which have only been checked out by the manufacturer as some manufacturers and dealers have done and which has proven to be unreliable.
You might also consider Upscale Audio - a well known retailer who does the burn in/testing and has a very good reputation for product and advise, as well as being the distributor for PrimaLuna.
Upscale Audio is the North American importer and we're always here to help you if you contact us. Even if you bought it used we want to make sure you are happy.
I don't know what you said about the amp being new or used when you bought it. If it's new, you have to give it a MINIMUM of 100 hours.
You also need to make sure you try BOTH speaker taps. Even if your speakers says it's 8 ohms don't rely on that. Try the 4 ohm tap. Pick the best sound by ear.
You can use all kinds of output tubes. Even KT150's. As to the 12AX7's putting in Mullards will result in more body and a slightly darker top end....and that's great...if that's what you need.
If you need more sparkle get a 12AX7 made in Holland like a Philips or Amperex. The Gold Lions are very good too. We have Amperex Bugle Boys and "Tubes made for Medicine" Amperex too, all of them graded in a moving coil head amp at the Upscale Audio website.
You guys can always call any of use for support. I am putting up a page at the PrimaLuna USA website about tube rolling to help with this stuff. I'm so swamped finding time to get that done is a challenge. But I finally got it started. More will be added soon.
