I have a lot of good 12AU7s -mainly Amperex- but I am always curious to know what a tube I don't have sounds like. I know describing sound is hard but would you kindly try. Thanks

You're not kidding. Audio is so subjetive.
My experience is just with 3 NOS tubes.
50ish Raytheon blackplate
50ish RCA blackplate
Mazda
Referencing the already good Chinese stock tube in my amp,
Each tube offers very subtle, sonic change.
Both blackplate models have a "warm" personality.
I'm not sure if its just in my head, but the Mazda is like putting my reading glasses on to clarify something I just read without them.
I can get by without them, but life is easier with them.
The sound I hear is maybe a smidge "clearer" with them?
I purchased them a few years back, and as supply dictates, price was less.
I also use the Mazda 12AX7 silver plate in my phono. Another tube worth seeking. I believe the current price also reflects availablility.
That is a meaningful description, saying that they are clean sounding and that al elements of the soundscape seem clearer than with others, in addition to the widely understood meaning of warmth, albeit a subjective meaning. thanks.
I might pursue them if I can find them .
I have so many good 12AU7s, Amperexes, Mullards, RCAs and Valvos. I was also surprised at the increased quality of a stock Chinese 12AU7, I got recently. Not to mention current production JJ 802S and subs like 5814s.

Mechans ;
Don't leave us in suspense like that !
What Chinese 12AU7's do you speak of ?
I am afraid the suspense will continue. The tube in question came with a small one tube hybrid headphone amp name the Bravo V2. It is made by a company calling itself ShenZhenAudio made in China. The tube is totally unbranded! The amp is really really good especially given its price. I rolled almost immediately, as a reflex, but then I thought let me compare the stock tube out of curiosity. In all honesty the tube was very good, not all that much worse than some of the best. I think is a reflection of the circuitry more than whether the tube was as good as my top contenders in particular some of my collection of 7316s which I have acquired over the years. (well before people started calling tungsram and g-d only knows what for a 7316,)
BTW I have no financial incentive whatsoever in telling you where you may be able to purchase this amp if interested.
