Won't a 5881 handle the same voltages as a 6L6? Maybe you meant to say 6L6GC?

The 5881 is an industrial version of the 6L6GB. Thus it can run in any amp suitable for that tube or the 6L6. I think anode voltage is 400v. Check your amp before you try. It can run at higher voltage but the lifespan will be shortened. tc, Dak
Voltage-wise, the 5881 is rated equal to the 6L6GB and 6L6. It should sub for either, but you said it won't. That's why I thought maybe you were referring to amps with the 6L6GC, not the 6L6.
