Stock AI preamps are NOTORIOUS "tube eaters". The only 6922 variant tough enough for the job is the Russian 6n23p-ev. Tubes marketed as 6922 under the ElectroHarmonix brand are 6n23p-ev. Russian 6n23p stock lacking the ev suffix may fail quite quickly.Scan the archives. A "simple" modification for AI preamps that allows tube "rolling" to be attempted, with safety, has been posted more than once.

I couldn't use Cyrillic earlier today, but now I can.
There's more than 1 system for transliterating Cyrillic into Latin. I prefer to state the Cyrillic and transliterate into parenthesized, lower case, Latin. For the 6922 in question, 6H23П-EB (6n23p-ev) is what you are looking for in pre New Sensor tubes. If you see a "diamond" with OTK inside it on a tube, it's a good thing. That is an indication of military stock. The Soviets routinely favored the military.

I've not been able to find the mod info after trying about a dozen search strings. I have a nice matched pair of JJ E88CCs, which are a bit warmer sounding than the EH 6922s, I understand. It would be nice to be able to use those in the line stage.

Search for posts by "wheezer". If you can't find 1 with the info. you need, PM him.

Henry, if you can't wait, Uncle Kevin at Upscale has two or three different 6n23 types too.
